About Me
My name is Brittney Owen. I am a Registered Nurse and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). When I started my nursing career my goal was always to work with new parents and their babies. At the beginning of my career, I worked in other areas of nursing that did not interest me as much, but immediately began taking additional courses in perinatal.
In 2012, I got my first position working in labour & delivery. During my time in this position I had a wonderful mentor (which is where the name of my company comes from) who was an IBCLC. She took me under her wing, which was a turning point in my career path. I continued to take more courses and get as much hands on breastfeeding experience as I could.

In 2015, I officially became certified as an IBCLC. I have been working full-time in the world of lactation for the last 9 years. I have experience supporting breastfeeding in the hospital, community and personally throughout my own breastfeeding journey. This experience has allowed me to support parents through all the stages of lactation throughout infancy.

Support with latching & positioning baby at the breast
Support/management of nipple pain related to a poor latch
Infant weight checks
Support with breast engorgement, plugged ducts, mastitis, thrush and other breastfeeding related concerns
Management of overactive let down/over supply
Learning how to use your pump
Support with creating an appropriate feeding plan that is protective of breastfeeding goals
Assistance/support with increasing milk production
